Original name for Bingo?

Has Bingo always been called Bingo from its birth or was it called something else before that? If it was does anyone know what it is and also why was it changed to Bingo?

Bingo was originally called "beano" in US. It was a country fair game where a dealer would select numbered discs from a cigar box; players would then mark their cards with bean and yelled "beano" if they won.

Thanks for replying. That's interesting to know, I would of never of guessed that Bingo came from beano. I take it, it was a popular game back in those days.

You are right on that - gambling will always be around if human beings are around. I guess there is a gambler in everyone of us

well it can be true that bingo was once called beano but i cant believe on the story which changed its name from beano to bingo.
